Reggae Drumming

One Drop, Rockers, Steppers

A unique way to feel the groove

Just when you learn some rock and funk beats and think you have it all down… you discover Reggae, Latin and Jazz and suddenly all the rules have changed!

One of my early teachers described reggae as rock in reverse. It really is an upside down feel if you only grew up on a steady diet of rock music.

Some typical, exciting and sometimes confusing elements of Reggae are NOT crashing on the ‘One’. No bass drum on the ‘one’, No ‘2 &4’ back beats, Not resolving fills. Syncopated Hi hat patterns, rim clicks… phew. Trust me, reggae compared to Rock is very different.
I’m gonna switch from a standard rock beat into a classic one drop reggae groove. Check it out!
