Linear Drumming

Have an idea or a project, lets collaborate and build some awesome stuff

One way to spice up your playing

This is one area of drumming I get asked about all the time.
Linear in drumming terms is defined as one sound source at a time. Often drum beats and fills are constructed by layering parts. With linear playing, we don’t play any drum or cymbal simultaneously.
It’s a great way to spice things up by adding in extra textures, space and flow to your playing. The ‘gospel chops’ craze borrows heavily from linear concepts.

Remember Linear means only playing one limb or part of the kit at a time. Nothing in unison.
It’s not a better or worse way to play drums. It’s simply yet another unique flavour you can explore.
