A fill is defined as a “short break in the groove a lick that ‘fills in the gaps’ of the music and/or signals the end of a phrase.’
Fills can be short, long, simple or complicated. It’s all about being musically approriate. A country gig is not the time to blaze those new gospel chops. A drum fill is a powerful statement.
