World & Latin Drumming

Mozambique, Songo, Samba, Tango, Beguine, Calypso, Cha Cha, Mambo, Bossa Nova

A Whole New World

It’s really not fair to lump World and Latin drumming in together. There aren’t enough hours in your lifetime to try and learn every style, from every Country in the world.
One thing you’ll notice instantly here is a lot of attempting to replicate a percussion instrument or even a whole ensemble of percussion instruments all at once with a drum kit.
From an independence and tonal perspective, world styles are closely linked to jazz.
But remember: There are no real hard and fast rules with defining a genre.
My advice is try everything you can and have fun!

Recommended listening: (Where to start!?)

Anything from the ‘Buena Vista Social Club’ (Cuba)

This music was massively inspirational for me starting out on the drums.
